On November 24 - 26, 2000,
the Sun unleashed
a series of coronal mass
ejections (CMEs)
that were directed towards
the Earth. Five of
these events were classified
as X-Class flares.
Despite predictions of
widespread aurorae visible
down to the mid- and lower-latitudes,
only those
lucky few above 55 degrees
geomagnetic latitude
were able to see the Northern
Lights during this storm.
Here are some photos John
Russell took on the
night of November 28th,
2000.
Typical photo settings:
Nikon N90s camera; 35mm
Nikkor F2.0 lens;
6 second exposures on Fuji
NHG II Pro800 film.
